A Vehicle’s cooling system is made up of a radiator, radiator hoses, water pump, heater, thermostat and a cooling fan. Things wear out and if any of the cooling system components fail, the engine can overheat causing expensive damage. Most of the cooling system components are inexpensive and should be replaced before they can fail.
- Belts
- Hoses
- Hose clamps
- Thermostat
- Radiator cap
- Coolant
Almost all vehicles now specify Coolant is to be mixed (usually) 50/50 with the radiator water. Coolant contains inhibitors to help prevent corrosion inside the engine and radiator. This coolant has an active life of between 1 and 2 years and should be flushed out and replaced at regular intervals. Only ever use the coolant recommended for the vehicle as mixing different brands/types of coolant can actually promote corrosion, especially in aluminium radiators. Read more here.
Ipswich Radiator Works can test your cooling system, power flush and refill it with the appropriate coolant and replace any components that may be at risk of failing.
